Dartford railway station is a busy junction serving three routes. The first railway from London to reach Dartford was the North Kent Line via Woolwich in 1849, connecting at Gravesend with the line through to the Medway Towns. Later two more lines were built, the Dartford Loop Line through Sidcup which opened in 1866, and the Bexleyheath Line which opened in 1895. All the lines were electrified on 6 June 1926.
The typical off-peak service from the station is two trains per hour to Cheshunt, and two trains per hour to London Liverpool Street.
Today (2009) little remains of manufacturing and much of the area has given way to warehousing and residential developments. However, companies such as Thomas Morson Ltd pharmaceutical manufacturers [5] have factories in the area and the Wright's Flour Mill the oldest working industrial building in Enfield with present day buildings dating back to the 18th century still remain.[4]
The pitch is maintained by Stadium Grow Lighting,[8] a series of heated lights which maintains the grass quality and also allows the grass to grow at all times of the year and in all seasons. The SGL system controls all aspects of the pitch when in use, including variables such as water intake, heat allowance, light allowance and other aspects which decrease the quality of a football pitch. The pitch is available for hire[9] when not in matchday use, with full Premier League officials and even Jumbotron use, hoarding advertising and a DVD-quality recording of the match available along with the executive suites for weddings, birthdays and other functions.
