Trinity Hospice

By 1894 Trinity had ten beds. Patients were cared for by the Order of St James?s Servants of the Poor, a teaching order of nuns. In 1896 the Order of Order of St Margaret?s of East Grinstead, a nursing order, took over. In 1899 the hospice moved from The Chase to Clapham Common North Side. By 1933 Trinity had 55 spaces in the Hospice and was constantly caring for those in need. The much needed service continued to grow with the opening of the 25-bed St Michael?s ward in 1953, bringing the bed total to 75.

Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum

Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum (or Friern Hospital) was an early psychiatric hospital located in Colney Hatch in what is now the London Borough of Barnet. The hospital was in operation from 1851 to 1993. At its height the asylum was home to 3,500 mental patients and had the longest corridor in Britain, and hence, its name was synonymous among Londoners with any mental institution. It would take a visitor more than five hours to walk the wards.[1]
